In Case of a Dental Emergency

Injuries to your teeth can happen anywhere. Any injury to the mouth can get those teeth knocked out or force them out of position and loosen them. Along with the injury to your teeth, we can also incur damage to the gums, lips, and cheeks. People not only visit their dentists to get wisdom teeth extraction or dental implants, but they might need their orthodontist to take care of any such injuries.

Reach your dentist right away after the injury. Delaying the saturation can lead to more blood loss and infections. One should reach their family dentist within 30 minutes and it can be a matter of saving or losing your natural tooth. Therefore, call your dentist right away for an emergency appointment. Never handle the tooth from the root but always handle it by the crown. If you touch the root it can lead to more damage to the cells that are responsible for bone reattachment. Keep it moist and place it in the socket to prevent it from drying out. If it is not possible to place the inured tooth back in the mouth gently, one should wrap the tooth in clean tissue and place it in milk.

Bite the tooth down to keep it from moving till you reach your dentist. In case you find that the tooth has been fractured due to injury, then the first step is to rinse the mouth with warm water and use an ice pack to reduce swelling. You can take some painkillers to alleviate the pain. The branch of orthodontics has advanced and can handle all kinds of injuries to teeth.

Those minor fractures will probably be left alone by the dentist or might go in for a composite restoration. Either way, you need to take proper care of the injured tooth for several days, just like you do when you get ceramic braces or a root canal.

The tooth can be completely restored if the pulp is not damaged permanently. You will need further dental treatment for any damage to the pulp. Severe fractures may lead to slim chance of recovery and means a more traumatized tooth.
